Night to Unite is an opportunity for neighbors to spend the evening together at "block parties," giving them an opportunity to get to know each other better. It also gives residents a chance to meet public servants and promotes local crime prevention efforts.
It's held annually on the first Tuesday in August. This year's event is August 2.
Typical events include a potluck dinner or neighborhood barbecue. Simple kids games are often organized. Night to Unite can be anything that gets neighbors out of the house and joining in.
Night to Unite is sponsored by the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association, AAA of Minnesota, and the Red Wing Police Department/City of Red Wing.
Each neighborhood participating receives a kit containing giveaway items (e.g. glow necklaces, pencils, other trinkets) as well as T-shirts. On the night of the event, representatives of the Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works as well as City Council members and other City representatives make the rounds visiting participating neighborhoods.
You can register by filling out the form on our Night to Unite webpage or by contacting Community Service Officer Matison Schoeder at 651.267.2609 or matison.schoeder@ci.red-wing.mn.us.
