  2. Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting

    The Heritage Preservation Commission is a seven-member commission that makes recommendations to the City Council on matters pertaining to the historic aspects within the City of Red Wing. Interests include, but are not limited to: buildings, lands, archaeological sites, areas or districts to be designated and/or described for Heritage Preservation. The Heritage Preservation Commission also works to educate the public by creating a greater awareness of the vast architectural and culturally significant sites that are part of Red Wing’s heritage. Finally, the Commission encourages the rehabilitation and renovation of historic buildings and works with property owners to develop appropriate plans for proposed projects. The Heritage Preservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month.

  5. Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board Meeting

    This is a seven-member board appointed by the Mayor to act as the City of Red Wing's primary agency for housing and redevelopment activities. The HRA administers and manages public housing properties and programs assisting families; administers housing and urban development rental assistance programs, assists redevelopment projects and plans, and also administers a variety of housing and commercial loan programs. The HRA meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

    The City has dedicated itself to a multi-year project involving the public, City Council, City staff, and a diverse, community-based Advisory Team made up of 12 residents. The project identifies, examines, and improves policies and practices that may negatively affect residents, especially residents of color. Recommendations will be brought forward to the City Council. Over time, each department and area of government will be examined for policy improvements.

    The Red Wing Public Library has a nine member governing board of city residents appointed by the Mayor and City council, which makes policy relative to the library’s services, collection development and programming, use of the building, intellectual freedom issues and develops and monitors the budget. There is potential for some additional committee work. Its mission is to “grow lifelong learners”. One member may be a non-city resident of Goodhue County. The term is 3 years and you may serve 2 consecutive terms. Library Board policies are administered by the Library Director. The board meets the second Wednesday of every odd month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 315 West 4th Street. Workshops may occur as needed on the second Wednesday of even months in the Foot Room of the Red Wing Public Library at 6:00 p.m.

The Advisory Planning Commission is the lead agency involved in developing the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month in the City Council Chambers at Red Wing City Hall at 7:00 p.m. All public hearings are published regularly in the Red Wing Republican Eagle. All residents and businesses within 500 feet of a property in question will be notified by mail.

    The Sister Cities Commission promotes cultural exchange between cities of different nations to foster strengthened economics, world peace, and a greater understanding of world issues. The City of Red Wing has two official sister cities – Ikata, Japan, and Quzhou, China. The commission also has had a very informal relationship with Drammen, Norway. The Sister Cities Commission can have up to 15 members appointed by the Mayor.

  13. Human Rights Commission Workshop

    Acknowledging the universal concept of human rights, the mission of the Human Rights Commission is to ensure that ALL Red Wing residents may participate equally and fully in the human experience. The City will work to extend these rights to economic opportunity, safe and affordable housing, and quality education at all levels to create a safe and supportive community environment. This involves actively working to assure all City policies and practices do not discriminate on any basis, including immigrant or refugee status.
