(August 30, 2023, Red Wing, Minn.) – The City of Red Wing would like to inform the public that the following notification has been received from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Withers Harbor Dr. in Red Wing to close for 10 hours for Hwy 61 bridge equipment removal.

RED WING, Minn. – Withers Harbor Drive will be closed to through traffic for approximately 10 hours on August 30 for crews to remove bridge construction equipment on Highway 61. The road would close Wednesday morning and reopen Wednesday afternoon, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The work will be taking place under the bridge, which will close Withers Harbor Drive to through traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but could reopen sooner if the work is completed earlier in the day. Motorists will be able to reach destinations there by using alternate routes.

A MnDOT contractor will continue work into fall this year to finish the replacement of one bridge on Highway 61 and wrap up for winter. The replacement of the second bridge over Withers Harbor Drive in Red Wing is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

Motorists will continue to not be able to make left turns off Highway 61 but will be able to follow alternate routes that allow them to make turns, typically right turns, to reach the destinations off the highway. Additionally, motorists won’t be able to make left turn from southbound Bench Street to southbound Highway 61 during the construction project.
