(May 22, 2023, Red Wing, Minn.) – On Monday, May 22, 2023, at 11:12 a.m., the Red Wing Fire Department was dispatched to smoke coming from the area of Tyler Road North and Cannon River Avenue in Red Wing.
Red Wing firefighters arrived on the scene in approximately five minutes from the time of dispatch and found a wildland fire spreading through a wetland area. The area burned was approximately three acres. The fire attack was slowed by difficult marshy conditions and the incident was placed under control within 60 minutes of arrival. Crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours to extinguish hot spots. No injuries were reported and no buildings were damaged; the cause of the fire is under investigation. The scene was turned over to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Red Wing Fire Department responded with one fire engine, one ambulance, two brush trucks, one utility vehicle, and two chief officers. Ellsworth Fire Department, Meisville Fire Department, Goodhue Fire Department, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted on scene along with law enforcement from Red Wing and Goodhue County. Ellsworth Ambulance provided station coverage for additional EMS calls.
Red Wing Fire Department units were already engaged in one emergency medical call at the time of dispatch for this incident. While this incident was ongoing, Red Wing Fire Departments units and mutual aid agencies responded to three additional emergency medical calls.
