[ARCHIVED] Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on West Fifth Street

(March 31, Red Wing, Minn.) – On March 30, 2023, at 9:15 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a possible kitchen fire in the 400 Block of West Fifth Street in Red Wing.

Firefighters/paramedics were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call. Firefighters made entry into the apartment and the fire appeared to be extinguished upon arrival. There was one injury reported and the patient was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Red Wing in Fair Condition. 

There was minor fire damage that was contained to the kitchen area in the apartment. Initial activities included searching the building, checking for fire extensions, and smoke removal. The cause of the fire, which originated in the kitchen, is under investigation. 

Apparatus used on the scene included one fire engine, one ladder truck, two ambulances, and two chief officers. Red Wing Police Department and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers assisted Red Wing Fire Department on the scene. Ellsworth Ambulance was called to provide station coverage with an ambulance. 

The Red Wing Fire Department reminds all residents to stay in the kitchen when cooking, and if a fire starts, slide a tight-fitting lid on the pan, and turn off the heat.
