[ARCHIVED] Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Natural Gas Leak

(July 9, 2022, Red Wing, Minn.) – On July 9, 2022, at 7:46 a.m., the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a smell of natural gas in the 200 Block of Bush Street, Red Wing.

Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call and after investigating, found a natural gas leak inside multiple businesses. Xcel Energy was immediately contacted. As a precaution, 12 apartments and seven businesses were evacuated from the area. At 9:26 the leak was contained and the gas was safely shut off. Residents and employees are safe to return to their homes and businesses. 

Apparatus used on the scene included three fire engines, one ladder truck, one ambulance, one tender, and one chief officer. A total of 16 firefighters worked at the scene for more than two hours. The Red Wing Police Department, Goodhue County Dispatch, and Xcel Energy-Gas assisted on the scene. Ellsworth Fire Department and Lake City Ambulance were called to fill in at Station 1.
