(June 28, 2022, Red Wing, Minn.) – Red Wing is one of over two dozen Minnesota communities where 12 or more sprinkler saves were reported between 2004-2021.

According to data from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division, there were 12 sprinkler activations that extinguished or controlled a fire in Red Wing during that timeframe. Across the state, the total number was 1,407 sprinkler activations.

Sprinklers in buildings help significantly reduce the risk of injury, loss of life, loss of property, and displacement. The risk to responding firefighters is also reduced.

From 2015 to 2019, sprinklers operated in 92% of fires large enough to activate sprinklers and were effective at controlling the fire in 96% of the incidents in which they operated.

Anyone considering installation of a sprinkler system in their building should contact the Fire Prevention Office at 651-388-7141.

Red Wing Fire Department is committed to helping anyone in need, providing exceptional fire suppression, advanced medical care, technical rescue, disaster management, fire prevention and public education. We are focused on operational readiness, department unity, professionalism and community engagement.
