(June 17, 2022, Red Wing, Minn.) – Today at 9:53 a.m. the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a medical emergency in the 1400 block of Bush Street in Red Wing. While responding, Goodhue County Dispatchers advised they heard a “beeping sound” in the background. One occupant was injured and transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Red Wing Medical Center at 10:03 in Serious condition.

Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call. Upon arrival, Firefighters/paramedics found light smoke in the residence. Firefighter/paramedics entered and found a small fire in the house, which they immediately extinguished with a fire extinguisher. The resident was rescued from the home and quickly moved to the ambulance. Firefighter/paramedics treated and transported the patient.

There was minimal fire damage to the office area inside the residence. The occupant upstairs was not affected.

Apparatus on the scene included one fire engine, one ambulance, and two Chief Officers. A total of seven firefighters worked at the scene for less than one hour. The Red Wing Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Red Wing Police Department and Goodhue Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers.

“All residents are reminded to have multiple working smoke detectors. Our ongoing education program encourages checking smoke detector batteries every spring and fall to ensure they’re ready when needed.”

The cause of the fire, which originated in the office area, is under investigation.
