The Public Works Department will begin its annual process of flushing all hydrants and mains in the city of Red Wing on Monday, May 2, at 6 a.m. The Water Treatment Facilities have improved the water quality in Red Wing, and as a results, crews have begun reducing the hydrant flushing to once a year.
The hydrant flushing are done to maintain water quality, remove accumulated rust from the water mains, and ensure that the fire hydrants work properly. Some areas such as dead-end streets may be flushed multiple times during the year depending on the specific needs of the area.
