[ARCHIVED] Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire with Injury

(September 21, 2021, Red Wing, Minn.) – At 10:35 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a residential structure fire in the 400 block of East Fifth Street. One patient on scene was evaluated by paramedics but was not admitted to the hospital. 

Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call and utilized an interior attack to combat the fire. The primary search of the building was completed and the fire was extinguished approximately 10 minutes after arrival. There were no injuries to emergency responders. 

There was fire damage to the first floor apartment and the fire was contained to the kitchen area. There is smoke damage to the fire unit as well as the upstairs unit. The Red Cross provided housing assistance for the residents of both units. The cause of the fire, which originated in the kitchen, is still under investigation. 

Apparatus used on the scene included three fire engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances and one chief officer. A total of 20 firefighters worked at the scene for more than one hour. Red Wing Police Department, Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, Xcel Energy, and Goodhue County Dispatch assisted on scene. Ellsworth Fire Department and Ellsworth Ambulance provided station coverage.
