Old West Main Street Update:
The contractor successfully completed all the new sewer and water services between Jefferson and Washington Street this week. The contractor also made progress on the storm sewer and anticipates having all utility work completed east of Jefferson Street by end of the day Monday. Starting next week Monday is the closure of the intersection of Jefferson Street and beginning of pavement removals. The contractor anticipates starting with the new underground utilities within Jefferson Street on Tuesday. The utility work within Jefferson is more challenging with a lot of utilities to work around and the contractor anticipates needing all of next week to get everything stubbed out of the intersection. Based on this the contractor plans to only close the intersection and will leave OWM open to the west side of the intersection. The closure of the rest of Old West Main through Buchanan Street is another full week out. Additionally, the contractor plans to start construction of the new roadway between Jefferson and Washington next week. The first step would be to excavate for the new sand and aggregate base. The roadway work will be completed by a second crew and is anticipated to start at Washington Street and work toward the west.
