Red Wing Riverview Skyway "Pedestrian Bridge" Update:
The pedestrian bridge is planned to remain open throughout construction of Old West Main Street this summer. The bridge will serve as a consistent means of access to Old West Main Street during construction and only expected to close during the permanent plaza construction connecting the bridge to Old West Main anticipated to be completed mid-summer.
Old West Main Street Update:
The contractor is eager to get started again with construction on Old West Main Street. A preconstruction meeting, with the contractor and City staff, was held on Wednesday, March 23, and construction is anticipated to start officially on Monday, April 11, within Stage 2 consisting of the two blocks of Old West Main Street from Washington Street to Buchanan Street. The work will start within the intersection of Washington Street first, with goal to get the utilities outside of the intersection and intersection reopened under gravel as quickly as possible. Due to the proximity of the adjacent buildings to the construction activities along Old West Main, the project specifications require the contractor to complete a preconstruction and post construction building condition survey. The City requested the survey to be completed on all buildings adjacent to Old West Main between Washington and Jefferson Street. All building survey and vibration monitoring work is being conducted by Terracon Consultants from Rochester, MN. The contractor has indicated a plan to sawcut the removal limits next week Thursday, March 31, under traffic, however no actual removal work is planned to start until after the roadway is fully closed on the 11th.
