(September 4, 2020, Red Wing, Minn.)

The Red Wing Police Department is aware of the planned ’Rally in the River Valley’ scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 4:00 PM hosted by the Harbor Bar in Hager City, Wisconsin.

We expect more than 1,000 motorcyclists and over 200 boats in the Mississippi River Valley area near the Harbor Bar. This event will be similar to the Flood Runs, which occur every spring and fall that also draws thousands of bikers to the area.

The Red Police Department is working with area agencies to have all resources at the ready if needed; however, we are not anticipating any problems.

This event has multiple stops up and down the Mississippi River (218-mile route) with riders starting and stopping at various points along the way, which should help prevent traffic jams. Traffic may become congested on HWY-61 and HWY-35 on the Wisconsin side, so plan accordingly and anticipate delays.

Motorcycles

"Look twice, save a life" isn’t just a slogan—it’s excellent advice, says Red Wing Police Chief Roger Pohlman. Safety must be the primary concern when automobiles and motorcycles share the road, and vigilance is crucial. Chief Pohlman advises to "Always check your blind spots, and leave room between your car and a motorcyclist."

Boaters

Anticipate issues; be a defensive boater. While you should be familiar with your own vessel’s maneuvering and capabilities, you should equally be aware of vessels operating around you and their maneuvering capabilities.

Public Gatherings

The Red Wing Police Department and the City of Red Wing respect our community’s right to gather and assemble. We stand with our community against any individuals or organizations that promote hate speech toward anyone based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other personal attributes.

The Red Wing Police Department remains committed to participating in meaningful conversations that will advance the work of racial equity in Red Wing. We will continue to be responsive to the needs of the community.
