Motor Vehicle Accident at Black Dog Animal Hospital

(July 7, 2020, Red Wing, Minn.) – On Monday, June 29, 2020, just before 5:00 p.m., Red Wing Police were dispatched to the area of the Black Dog Animal Hospital after dispatch received reports of a motor vehicle accident.  Upon arrival, officers located a black sedan, with heavy damage, lying on its roof in the grass to the east of the Black Dog Animal Hospital.  It appeared the vehicle approached the crash scene while traveling westbound on Old West Main Street.  The responding officer noted he could see tracks that veered onto the grass and sidewalk area on the south side of Old West Main Street.  The tracks crossed paths with a fire hydrant that was destroyed, then continued across Harrison street and up onto the grass where the sedan came to rest.

As a result of the crash, an exterior wall at Animal Hospital sustained significant structural damage.  A washer, dryer, and water line were also damaged, resulting in water flowing into multiple rooms inside the business.  Employees were inside the Black Dog Animal Hospital at the time of the accident, but none sustained injuries.

Responding Red Wing Police Officers spoke with witnesses and located the driver of the vehicle at a nearby location.  The driver was transported by Red Wing Fire Department Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash.

This incident is an open investigation with charges pending against the driver.

The Red Wing Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Red Wing Fire Department.
