Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond to Gas Leak

(06/19/2020, Red Wing, Minn.) – On June 19, 2020, at 12:02 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department was dispatched to a gas leak at the intersection of Putnam Avenue and Pine Street.  Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within three minutes of receiving the call and after investigating, found a free-flowing, two-inch natural gas line had been struck with a piece of excavating equipment. Xcel Energy was immediately contacted.  As a precaution, 11 homes, including nine people and one dog, were evacuated in the area.  At 1:14 p.m., Xcel Energy was able to safely shut the gas off.  People residing in this area are safe to return to their homes.  Apparatus used on the scene included two fire engines and one ambulance. A total of 10 Firefighter/Paramedics worked at the scene for approximately two hours.  The Red Wing Police Department, Goodhue County Dispatch, Red Wing Public Works, and Xcel Energy-Gas assisted on scene.  Ellsworth Fire Department and Lake City Ambulance were called to fill in at Station 1.
