Red Wing Fire Department
Burning Restrictions for Goodhue County and the City of Red Wing
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN-DNR) still has burning restrictions in place for Goodhue County, including the city of Red Wing. Even though the Red Wing Fire Department issues burning permits for residents within city limits, we seek the guidance and expertise of the MN-DNR forestry division when it comes to preventing and mitigating loss from wildland fires. Initially, restrictions were put in place due to dry conditions, which is very common this time of year. Although, we have yet to reach full "green up," conditions are improving every day. In an effort to protect its employees, the MN-DNR may decide to keep restrictions in place due to the Governor’s Stay At Home Orders and social distancing related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What does this mean to you? Unfortunately, no new burning permits can be issued while restrictions are in place. Recreational campfires are still allowed while burning restrictions are in place. For those that currently hold an active burning permit, you will be allowed to continue burning once restrictions are lifted. In consideration of current circumstances beyond everyone’s control, any lost burning time due to the restrictions will be added back to your initial permit application.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter during these challenging and unprecedented times. Please direct any and all additional questions or concerns to the Fire Prevention Office at 651-385-3694.
