(March 19, 2020, Red Wing, Minn.) – The City of Red Wing would like to inform the public that the following notification has been received from Xcel Energy:

Xcel Energy Gas Main Replacement Project

Xcel Energy and its contractor Q3C will be beginning work on two natural gas replacement projects in the areas of the Woodland Hills and Birchwood Village additions. The areas to receive the gas replacements are Maple Street West, Woodland Drive, Ridgewood Lane, Birchwood Drive, Poplar Drive, Red Oak Avenue, Willow Drive, Sumac Drive, and Spruce Drive. A complete list of affected addresses is included on the last pages of this project update. These projects will involve replacing natural gas main and services that run under the boulevard or sidewalk. The two projects will begin the week of March 23rd, 2020.

The first phase of the projects will include locating existing utilities and the directional boring of new gas main and gas services. This first phase is expected to last until the week of April 20, when larger excavations will be made to tie-in the newly installed gas main and services. As part of this project, sewer laterals will need to be located by the Q3C sewer locators. This process includes inspecting the sewer laterals to verify depth thus avoiding any sewers being damaged by the directional boring. If residents have a gas meter located inside their home, it will be moved outside of the home to meet safety compliance. Some meters located outside may be upgraded in the same location.

There will be no charge for this work unless the customer requests the meter be placed in a non-standard Xcel Energy location. All disturbed hard and soft surface restoration will be completed by Q3C after the projects have been completed. Project completion is estimated to be mid- to late summer, weather dependent.
