Maple Street Update
The milling operation arrived a little ahead of schedule (a good thing!), so we completed the milling work on Friday, Aug. 23. Paving work is currently scheduled for Thursday, August 29 on Maple Street. Maple Street, West Avenue, and all the side streets will be open during the paving operations, but please be aware of the presence of flaggers directing traffic during the paving operations.
The contractor will be completing turf restoration operations after the paving is complete, likely the week of Labor Day.
Guernsey Lane/GoodhueStreet/Eagle Ridge Drive
Quick update regarding the paving schedule on the streets near the high school:
The paving that had been scheduled for this Saturday has been delayed until (likely) Thursday, August 29. We will be avoiding paving on Eagle Ridge Drive or Guernsey Lane around the time of the New Student Orientation at the high school to accommodate event traffic. All streets will be open to through traffic during paving operations with flaggers directing traffic. There is a possibility that paving work may occur earlier in the week depending on the availability of the contractor and weather impacts.
Thanks for your patience as we get this work done before school starts again!
West and East Avenues Update
Work on the pedestrian ramps on the west sides of West Avenue and East Avenue is still underway. The contractor has begun pouring curbs on the west side of West Avenue, and they will continue with curbs and sidewalks on the west side of West Avenue early next week. Concrete work will then progress to the west side of East Avenue.
We also ran into a problem at the intersection of East Avenue and Fifth Street while excavating. The storm sewer line is either plugged or collapsed crossing East Avenue at Fifth Street, so we will be doing some more investigation to determine what the best fix is for that work. Don’t worry: driving across the intersection is safe (at least as far as we can tell). Depending on what the best fix is, there may be some additional work in that intersection that needs to happen. If we need to restrict more travel lanes or close the intersection, we will let the public know as soon as we know.
All of the pedestrian ramps at the intersections immediately adjacent to Central Park will be open for the Hispanic Heritage Festival on September 7. Work may be occurring on pedestrian ramps further away on East or West Avenues, but at least one side of the sidewalk along both East and West Avenues will be open for event attendees to walk to the festival.
Thanks for your patience as we continue work on this important accessibility upgrade!
We appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighbors, drivers, and pedestrians during this time of inconvenience. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through all work zones. Thank you for your patience!
