The Red Wing Fire Department wants to light a fire for reading in kids’ minds, and it’s proud to be in the second year of its new “Burning Desire to Read” program, in partnership with the Red Wing School District and Public Library. This year, three students from Burnside Elementary were nominated by their teachers to be acknowledged for their commitment to reading.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the three students were recognized for their achievements at Fire Station 1, where they met Mayor Dowse, went on a tour of the vehicle bay, and received special backpacks from the Mayor and Acting Fire Chief Mike Warner. The three students then rode in a fire engine to Burnside Elementary, arriving with lights flashing to greet their classmates.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients and the Fire Department looks forward to another year of working with the Library and School District to promote the importance of reading for students.
