Japanese Representatives Return to Red Wing

(May 3, 2019, Red Wing, Minn.) – Late last week, the Red Wing Fire Department hosted several fire protection managers from Japanese utilities and safety organizations, as well as a retired member of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Paul Lain.  The group visited facilities across the nation to better understand U.S. nuclear protection programs and were particularly interested in Red Wing due to its excellent relationship with the nearby Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant.

This visit is the second to our city by international utilities and safety representatives; last October, a similarly-comprised group also visited the RWFD as part of a nation-wide tour of nuclear power plants.  Minnesota-based company, AMMI Risk Solutions, facilitated the visits of both groups.  James Masterlark, Chief Operating Officer of the company, commented that the success of the first tour spurred immediate interest in another, with Red Wing being of special interest due to its cooperative partnership with the Prairie Island plant.

Along with providing a tour of Fire Station 1, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Warner discussed the cooperation between the RWFD and the Prairie Island plant, including how the two agencies work together and the integration between Red Wing firefighters and power plant staff for a unified front with a common goal.
