Outdoor Fireworks

Permit

A permit is required to conduct a live outdoor fireworks display. 

Application

The party wanting such permit shall make application to the Permits and License Manager for an operational permit at least 15 days prior to the date on which the public display shall begin.

Permit applications can be applied for and submitted electronically online by viewing the outdoor fireworks permit application.

Submissions

Permit applications may also be received from and submitted to the Permits and License Manager at the Community Development Building.

Application Items

Regardless of how one submits, the application shall include the permit fee, proof of a bond or certificate of insurance in amount of at least $1,000,000, a diagram of the site at which the display will be held. 

This diagram (drawn to scale or with dimensions included) must show 

  • Lines behind which the audience will be restrained
  • Location of all 
    • Buildings
    • Communication lines, 
    • Highways
    • Streets
    • Other possible overhead obstructions
  • Locations of ground pieces
  • Point at which the fireworks are to be discharged

Display must be in accordance with MN Statute 624.22, Minnesota State Fire Code (MSFC) Section 5608, and NFPA 1123.

Status of Application

Plan review turn around time is approximately 7 to 10 days.
